Class Schedule

The 2015 Class Schedule is now available on our website so you can start planning for the year ahead. Class enrolment opens online from 9am Sunday 30 November. Please feel free to contact us if you are really interested in our classes but would like to propose other locations. We’d especially like to see what demand is like in the Northern Suburbs 🙂

Playgroup

Weekly get together at Brooklyn Community Centre during term time
We host a Thursday morning Playgroup for children under 5 and their parents/caregivers, from any cultural background and any Mandarin Chinese fluency level. We provide a relaxed 30 minute group circle time in Mandarin at the beginning of Playgroup. The remainder of the Playgroup session is morning tea, free play and a social time for the families. Our inaugural Term 4 has been really enjoyable for the children, parents and the Ni Hao CC team, and we’re looking forward to 2015 🙂

School Holiday Programme

Chinese New Year theme! Dumplings, Lion Dancing & Tang Yuan dessert

Week 1: Wednesday 14 and/or Friday 16 January 2015.
Week 2: Wednesday 21 and/or Friday 23 January 2015.

For 5 to 12 year olds, who would like to learn Mandarin Chinese and about the Chinese culture. (We may also enrol 3 to 5 year olds on a case by case basis so please contact us if you have young ones).

This is an immersion Mandarin Chinese language programme. Children will be communicated to in Mandarin Chinese, with plenty of accompanying body language and actions. There may be a few puzzled faces at the start, but they will be fine and will soon pick things up! Immersion is a good way of learning the language first hand. Note that our teachers/supervisors are fluent in English, and will use it if really necessary, so you can tell you child not to worry!

Here’s a brief outline of the programme…
Wednesday: make morning tea / introduction to related Mandarin Chinese food and actions vocabulary and conversation, Chinese New Year folk story of the Dumpling, make dumplings (mince pork and mixed vegetables), cook and eat dumplings / lunchtime, revision of the day’s learnings / interactive language games.

Friday: make morning tea / revision of related Mandarin Chinese food and actions vocabulary and conversation, Chinese Lion Dance (mask making and dancing), introduce Chinese New Year significance of and make Tang Yuan (glutinous rice balls in syrup), learn about & eat different noodles / lunchtime / cook and eat Tang Yuan for dessert, revision of the day’s learnings / interactive language games.

It costs $70 per child per day ($135 for 2 days). A family discount of 5% applies when enrolling more than one child (siblings). Fees include all materials, morning tea and a cooked lunch. Your child just needs to bring themselves and a water bottle!
