For all teachers in New Zealand working in a school – if you’re interested in teaching a language, check out the Teacher Professional Development Languages (TPDL) programme. It is a Ministry of Education funded programme (for the past 10+ years!) and is an in-service year-long professional development programme for teachers at all New Zealand schools.
TPDL supports the teaching and learning of Chinese, French, Japanese, German, Spanish, Samoan, Niuean, Cook Islands Maori, Tongan and Tokelauan. TPDL has a focus on:
- improving teachers’ own language capabilities
- updating teachers’ understanding of effective second language teaching
- reflecting on teachers’ classroom practice
You can visit the TPDL website for more info or to apply for next year’s programme.
