A lot of our students come from non-Mandarin speaking homes, so we try to ensure that the children have the time and opportunity to build their confidence and to practise those speaking skills during class.
Our teachers are there to facilitate the children’s learning, so our teachers will not be talking for 100% of the time in a Year 1 to 8 class! The class is likely to be the only time during the week that a child is given that much time to speak in Mandarin, so there should be time/space allowed for your child to speak.
We do enjoy giving the children a leadership role in class – and it’s always wonderful to see a shy child come out of their shell and trust that it is a safe environment to do so! 🙂
