Prep (4 & 5 years old / up to Year 1)

Preparation group class in full language immersion

For students aged 4 and 5 years old / Year 1
– Drop off class / to encourage child’s independent thought & responses
– 55 minutes per lesson
– 2 year (8 consecutive school terms) programme
– Aligned with our School Age curriculum
– Progression to School Age Foundation Level 1 is based on age (student will move to Level 1 when student is going to be Year 2 at school)

There is a maximum of 10 children per class. Children are to be dropped off to class and picked up after by a pre-authorised adult, however parents/caregivers are welcome to quietly sit at the back of the class to learn along the way, and may sometimes be asked to help with props or be actors! A parent/caregiver may also accompany their child to the first class to help settle them in.

What happens in class?

The 55 minute class uses stories, group social games and interactive language activities, nursery rhymes and songs to develop familiarity and build confidence in hearing, thinking and speaking the language.

This class introduces learning to recognise written characters that are relevant to the curriculum (visual familiarity only – these classes are not reading and writing classes). Basic character writing is also introduced.

The class covers the same topics as School Age Level 1, so there is a smooth transition to the next stage for your child.

What does Prep cover?

Term 1 to 4 occur in the first full calendar year of the programme, Term 5 to 8 occur in the second full calendar year of the programme. It is preferable for children to start at the beginning of a calendar year, however children are able to start during the year in discussion with the office.
